Clearwater Beach could be getting one of the world’s top luxury hotel brands, a JW Marriott, in the next couple years.
The Tampa Bay Times has reported that after four years of planning the project is finally coming to fruition on the south stretch of Clearwater Beach where the DreamView Resort (691 S. Gulfview Blvd.) currently sits. The 166-room JW would be Tampa Bay’s first true 5-star hotel and one of about 75 JW’s worldwide. If construction begins as planned this fall, the hotel would be ready in 2019.
What makes a true 5-star hotel? According to Forbes Travel Guide, which awards the stars, it should have beautiful beds with “full and plump” pillows; distinctive drinks, like ice cubes with juniper berries frozen inside; supreme servce, like pressing and shoe shine service; memorable restaurant meals; top-notch room service; thoughtful turndown, like freshly baked cookies and milk or eye masks and lavender mists; and helpful housekeeping, like cell phone and laptop chargers cables getting nicely coiled.
Plans for this particular JW have an infiinity pool, outdoor decks at various levels, a Spa by JW and two restaruants.
The $120-million project is being led by hotelier Uday Lele during a time of unprecedented hotel activity in St. Pete/Clearwater. In the past 14 months on Clearwater Beach alone two large new resorts opened—Opal Sands and Wyndham Grand—which have helped make up more than 2,000 new rooms throughout St. Pete/Clearwater
